HORN & IVORY BOOKS IS COMING TO THE STAR BLOCK
10/25/25: We've signed a lease for the final retail space in the building: Horn & Ivory Books! This independent bookstore will curate a unique selection of books, used and new, promoting self-published authors and other local businesses. It will be located at 522 Market St., and we think it will be the perfect fit alongside the coffeehouse/bistro next door.
PHASE 3 CONSTRUCTION
HAS BEGUN
8/12/25: The final phase of work has started. The third phase will consist primarily of rehabilitation of the interior, building out our two retail storefronts and five Airbnb apartments. Utility service will be brought to the building, and some final exterior improvements and restoration will be made. We expect the building to open in early 2026.
PHASE 2 CONSTRUCTION
HAS STARTED
5/6/24: Work on replacing the two retail storefronts, the windows and the exterior doors has begun. The existing non-historic and dilapidated storefronts are being removed, and new storefronts with a historically appropriate design similar to the 1880s originals will be built. A $250,000 Community Development Block Grant is largely funding this phase.
